Continuing … In this three part series, we will take a close look at the new creature: his benefits, his lifestyle and his responsibility.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Before we became new creatures in Christ, we lived totally for ourselves, making our own decisions on where we would live, attend school and all aspects of life.
Now, however, we are charged by the Lord to live for Him. How do we live for the Lord? We live for Him by:
1. Yielding control of our lives to the Spirit of God
God has purchased us with the blood of His only dear Son. He owns us, but He wants us to give control of our lives to Him voluntarily.
2. Yielding our bodies to His control/will
Our bodies are the temple of God; He lives within us in the person of the Holy Spirit. It is not acceptable to use them in a manner unsuitable for a holy place.
3. Allowing God to change our way of thinking
God’s logic is contrary to that of the world. Our minds are completely changed to His way of thinking as we learn more about Him and His ways through the study of His Word.
We must always bear in mind what God would have us to do in every situation and to respond accordingly with the utmost integrity.
It is tempting to ignore God’s desire when we are fairly certain that others will not know what we have done or what we are thinking. If we cheat on our taxes, who will know? If we house resentment in our hearts for a former boss or co-worker, who will know? God knows all.
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 KJV
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:20 KJV
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 KJV
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 KJV
